Not Me - Helping

In the last week there are several things that I certainly DID NOT do...or would not admit to doing...unless I were asked point blank. For example, I did not allow the 2 year old to watch a movie just so I could get the floor mopped with out her "assistance." No way, I would welcome a chance for extra time with my daughter...especially if it meant she would be learning about things that need doing in the house. And it would not matter in the least that the job would take twice as long as usual. I would certainly not be satisfied with her only helping to sweep and empty the dustpan (with most of the dirt falling right back onto the floor, I might add.)

And along those lines, I certainly do not secretly dread hearing the toddler sweetly say "Mommy may I help?" as I am washing dishes or cooking. And I would not be secretly glad when I could say, "I'm sorry sweetie, I just finished." No way! I am the type of mom who always wants to encourage her children to be helpers...no matter how long it takes!

I would not ignore my children playing in their room together as I hear the 2 year old telling the baby. "No no J-bub! You need to lay down! You are in time out!" No, I would most certainly go check on them, even if there were no tears involved from the baby. After all, I am a caring, concerned mom. And I might not intervene, but I would certainly survey the situation.

And finally, I do not think that I am learning what mastitis feels like. No way...that would not happen for the first time when my second child is almost 10 months old. (this one is me being in total denial, and hoping that the hot washcloth and ibuprofen fix it.)

Not Me Monday - A Little Behind the Times

OK, I realize I have been really behind in keeping up with our doings. I keep making a note of things in my head...and then my lack of brain power causes those things to be lost, possibly forever. Maybe I should carry a little notebook around with me to jot things down. But then again, writing is very hard to do, when you are constantly carrying a baby around and he seems to think that everything his mom touches ought to go in his mouth. Hmm...what to do? Maybe I'll figure it out one of these days.

In the meantime, I will tell you about a not me moment from a couple weeks ago and one from last night. Maybe I will remember more next week...I can hope, can't I?

I most certainly would never allow my toddler to eat only french fries, fruit loops and goldfish for dinner because of my lack of foresight when I planned a trip to the grocery store AFTER staying at the pool until it closed at 6pm.

I did not laugh as my daughter ran from the bathroom to her bedroom, with a bare hiney and her Daddy chasing her to get a diaper on her last night. (Although if I did, my plea would be that it was just so cute!)

And I did not fall asleep in my daughter's bed not once but twice last night. Nope, never. Not me. My children know how to fall asleep, stay asleep and/or put themselves back to sleep on their own and I always fall asleep in my own bed. HA! (Just for the record...my almost nine month old still doesn't know how to put himself to sleep...sigh...)

Not Me Monday - Baby, Toddler and Mommy

I did not do a Wordless Wednesday post...on Tuesday morning. Thankfully I DID realize it was Tuesday before I hit publish and then simply saved the post for Wednesday morning.

I did not skip a bath with my visibly dirty toddler and simply wipe her down with baby wipes in order to get her into bed a little less late.

And I did not look at my baby on the floor...several feet away from where I put him...and wonder how he got over there. Did he scoot, roll, or (gasp!) crawl (for the first time) without me seeing him? No way...I pay much more attention that that.

And as a little sidenote, he IS very close to crawling. Last night (5/23/10) he did get up on all fours and rock back and forth for a moment before he was too worn out to continue. Maybe he will do it again tonight and then I can get a picture for you :)

Finally, I did not skip a nap for me and choose to work on packing when BOTH of my children were sleeping AT THE SAME TIME yesterday afternoon for over two hours! (Samantha's nap was actually 3.5 hours and she only got up when she did because Brent woke her up a little after 4 so that he could tell her he was leaving.)

Not Me and Not My Child

Hmm....what should I start with today? Me...or Samantha. I guess I'll start with me, then I can leave you with a smile courtesy of my 2 year old.

This weekend, I would not be grouchy and snippy with my husband just because I am tired and I was frustrated with the whole moving and living apart thing. (Sorry, honey, I love you!) After all, I know that we only have 2 days together each week. There is no way I would do anything that might make those 2 days any less than they could be.

Also, I would not leave Samantha's dinner plate sitting on the table last night...with food on it...ALL NIGHT LONG. No way! I clean up the dishes immediately after they are used!

And there is no way that I would walk into the kitchen this morning to see Samantha sitting at the table. In the same chair she sat in last night. Right in front of the dinner plate that was not still on the table. And she definitely did not turn around when she heard me and tell me "Me eating mine samich again," while holding up the last bite of her PB&J sandwich. From LAST NIGHT! Hopefully PB&J doesn't get spoiled from sitting out all night.

And finally, Samantha would never ever in a million years, while helping me weed the flower beds, say "I helping in garden. 'Mantha helping A LOT!" as she threw mud up in the air which then landed on both of our heads. Oh what a helper I have!

Not Me - Missing Daddy

So today is Brent's first day at his new job. That means that last night was our first with two kids and a Mommy, but no Daddy. So here is what certainly did not happen last night.

Samantha did not tell me, only 15 minutes after Brent left "Daddy gone. I miss my Daddy."

I did not go in and hold and snuggle and sing to Samantha when she was having a fit about having to stay in bed, because I thought the real problem was that she missed her Daddy.

I did not stay up 45 minutes later than I planned, simply because I didn't want to have the bed all to myself. And I certainly did not take more than 30 minutes to fall asleep after that just because the bed was too empty.

Daddy, Brent, we miss you and will be very glad when next weekend comes!

And one final, unrelated to Daddy's absence tidbit. I did not wake up at 3:30am listening to a 2 year old yell "Mommy! Need bafwoom! Need potty!" And said 2 year old did not then sit on the potty, let out one big toot and immediatley say "All done" There is no way that we were both awake and out of bed for that.

Not me - packing edition

This week has been crazy, trying to get packed and ready for putting the house on the market and moving. But in spite of that craziness, there are some things that I just would not do.

For example, there is no way I would stand on the end table in Samantha's room to reach something on a shelf so that I could fill up one more box during my lunch hour. And there is no way said table would immediately collapse under me as it broke, throwing me into the wall then onto the floor, leaving the entire right side of my body with gigantic, sore bruises. Like I said...no way. I am much smarter and more graceful than that.

And there is no way I would tell my husband that I was craving pizza, then allow him to convince me to go eat pizza for dinner, even though I know dairy causes reflux problems for Jacob.

And there is certainly no way that I would concentrate so much on packing that it is 7:20 before we bring Samantha in from the backyard to eat dinner.

Yes, it has been crazy this week, but it will get better :)

Confessions

Today is Not Me Monday, but I don't really feel like Not-Me-ing, so I am just confessing flat out. Here we go:

I always said I would never call my daughter princess. In fact, before I had kids, I would hear people call their daughter princess and think "Don't call her princess. You are going to make her prissy" But then I had Samantha...and I started calling her princess from very early on. And I call her princess at least twice every day, usually much more than that. You have even heard me call her princess here on this blog.

So now I work to remind her that she is a princess because she is a daughter of the King, and as she grows I will work to instill in her the kindness, graciousness, humility, generosity and love that she should show as His princess daughter. And hopefully she won't be prissy ;)

********************

The only thing that keeps me from eating Samantha's chocolate Easter bunny right now is that it has milk in it.

********************
I put Samantha in lots of pink and she has quite the bow collection. This is in spite of the fact that I said I wouldn't do either. But with her short hair, she needs the pink so that she doesn't get called a boy by random people every day. And the bows are just SO CUTE on her. Not quite as cute as hats...but still very cute.
*********************
I really don't like it when Samantha says "Thanks" rather than "Thank you." I'm not really sure why...it just sounds nicer to me. So I correct her on it fairly frequently. I really had no idea where she got the "Thanks" from. Then one day, mere seconds after I corrected her, I heard myself say "Thanks, honey" to Brent. Yep, I am where she picked it up...and it turns out that I say it ALL THE TIME. I am working on it now.

You can see what everone else is confessing and/or not-me-ing here.

Not Me Monday

One of the bloggers that I read, MckMama, started a “Not Me Monday” and weekly invites others to join her in confessing those things that one certainly would never do. And this week she is doing a giveaway in association with it. So I decided that I would join in.

This week has had lots of situations pop up. For example, I would never be tempted to take my toddler’s picture when she got herself stuck under her bed rather than going to sleep in her bed and was hollering “Stuck, Mommy!” (Notice I said tempted. I really did just get her out!)

And I would never allow myself to fall asleep when I could hear that the same toddler was up and about it her room rather than taking a nap. And there is no way that said toddler would manage to completely ransack her room by getting every toy out and every book off the shelf, all while her Mommy was snoozing away.
And I would never be tempted to do nothing simply because she was standing at the gate in her doorway calling for Daddy (who was in the living room) even though I was in the bedroom, right next to her room. (Once again…notice the word tempted. That means I thought about it, but did not act on that thought!)

I would never cave by going to pick her up when she was crying in her room, once again at the gate, saying, “Don’t want night night. Want sleep MommyDaddy bed.” And when she then cried for Daddy, I would certainly NOT bring her to Daddy in our bed simply because I was too tired to deal with anything else. (This story may be coming in full in the future.)

And finally, I would never say “Thanks, Honey,” to my husband mere seconds after telling my toddler that we say “Thank you” not “Thanks.”

Nope, couldn’t have been me. Must have been my twin posing as me. What’s that? I don’t have a twin? Oh. I guess I’ve been found out. :)
